"The headlines read yesterday, 'After 11 years, former athletics coach acquitted of molest charges'.
Meanwhile, I had a big shock last Friday upon hearing that my work partner at the university was arrested for molesting a 17-year-old high school student in a morning train at Fukuoka city.
He was reported to have dug his hands under her skirt and fondled her buttocks for about 10 minutes.
The schoolgirl alerted the train conductor and he was reprimanded at the next stop.
This incident marks the third arrests of our university staff in two months. (See also Bribery and sexual harassment in the university).
He is a nice guy, really.
Unassuming, quick to apologize, does not create trouble for colleagues.
I have a lot of difficulty trying to understand why.
He is still under police custody in Fukuoka, and probably slamming his head against the wall, gnashing away, 'why... why... why...'
He has a wife, and a cute little child.
The Japanese call it, 'at the push of the devil' (that is, at my interpretation).
He means no harm. He is a good man.
But at that very instant, the devil enters into his soul, and (mis)leads him to commit that unthinkable act.
The former athletics coach lost 11 years of his life, fighting to regain his reputation.
That is simply too much to lose in a lifetime.
Lesson to be learnt is... not to allow/invite/entertain the slightest doubt on one's reputation and morals.
Hopefully, not even 'at the push of the devil'.

Why am I so interested to post about the menacing act of the educators here in Japan? Well guess what? What initiated my previous post and the accumulated stress was probably my righteous feeling of what is right and what is wrong!
I cannot, may I repeat, I CANNOT respect and hence work under such a professor. I know that these things do happen worldwide. But to be in Japan for a year and heard and read about the "skinship" act of educators more than 5 times is totally unacceptable. Now, what more... being a student under such a professor!
I always believe that educators are suppose to teach and educate the leaders of tomorrow. If educators can use their academic power to do such things to their students, what will Japan be in future but a country full of sexual harassers and women who merely act as sex slaves.
Sigh, I really hope that the situation will change and women here in Japan should stand up for their rights. Do not suffer in silence. Nobody will hear you! Speak up!!
At least in Malaysia, we are trying to make a difference. PM: Laws will be amended to ensure equality for women. I certainly do hope that this is not NATO (No Action Talk Only)!!!

Hey AnGeL, that's pretty heavy stuff... seriously, my belief is that there will be many more cases uncovered in time to come... girls in Japan have been suffering in silence for too long. One good sign is the increased use of 'ladies only' train carriages in the urban areas... too many of those hamsab oyajis hanging around for too long...
Hey dear~ I agree with what Lrong have said. The Japanese women in Japan tend to stay too silent for these harrassment things. It is really time for them to realise a silent compromisation would only make those wolves howl stronger.
Make sure you bring defending weapon with you all the time, in case he dares to touch you. UURGH!!! I hate all these sukebe jiji!!

Hello Angle: I think we are all mislead by the Asian culture. Yes, in the earlier days of society or during the elementary school/junior high, teachers are supposed to be morally proper. However, in higher educational institutions, a professor is not a teacher of moral and proper hehavior, but to teach/share the acquired technical knowledge. Like any other profession, A university professor has his/her chosing on what life style/entertainment to follow...not that I agree with what the perverted educator did, he should visit places catering his interest and pay for the activities accrodingly....that's my two yens.
